Garage Door Repair work by Entrance Masters

Most garage door problems are one part, not one door

The expensive answer and the honest answer are usually different, and which one you get depends entirely on who shows up.

What actually breaks, in roughly the order it happens

Springs go first, because they are the part doing the work. Cables go second, usually because they have been fraying against a drum for a while and nobody looked. Rollers crack, especially the cheap plastic ones that come on a builder grade door. Hinges split at the bearing. Track gets bent by a bumper. Sensors drift out of alignment and the door starts refusing to close.

Almost none of that means a new door. A door is a frame full of replaceable parts, and it is normal for a fifteen year old door to be on its second set of springs, its second set of rollers and its third set of sensors while the panels themselves are perfectly fine.

One customer put it plainly on Google: another company told her she needed things she did not need. She called here instead and had the door fixed and serviced for under two hundred dollars. That review is on this site because it describes the difference better than any promise would.

  • Door run and watched through a full cycle before anything is quoted
  • Springs, cables, drums, rollers, hinges and track all checked, not just the obvious one
  • The part that failed named, and why it failed
  • What is worn but still working pointed out so you can decide
  • Safety sensors aligned and the reverse tested before we leave

Why the diagnosis takes a few minutes and not a few seconds

A door tells you what is wrong if you run it. A bind at one height in the travel is track. A shudder off the floor is a roller or a hinge. A door that lifts a foot and stops is the opener hitting its force limit, which is usually a spring problem wearing a sensor problem's clothes. A door that closes then immediately reverses is either the photo eyes or the down force setting.

The reason that matters to you is money. Fixing the symptom on a door whose real problem is upstream means you pay twice. One customer here had been fighting garage problems since buying her home, and wrote that Ricky tried every cost effective option he could before saying the motor needed replacing, which most companies would not have done.

When the motor did turn out to be the answer, it was replaced, and she wrote that the door now opens and closes as it should and is smooth and quiet. That is the right order: cheapest real fix first, and the big one only when the cheap ones are genuinely exhausted.

Cables, drums and the part that is genuinely dangerous

The lift cable runs from the bottom bracket up to a drum on the torsion shaft. It carries the entire weight of the door. When one snaps the door drops on one side, jams in the track, and now you have a heavy panel held at an angle by a spring that is still fully loaded.

Do not take the bottom bracket off a door in that state. It is bolted to the cable under tension and it is the single most common way people get badly hurt in their own garage. Same for a torsion spring: it holds hundreds of pounds of force even when the door looks harmless sitting on the floor.

Cables are cheap and they are replaced in pairs, because if one has been chewing itself on a drum for two years the other one has too. The drums get checked at the same time, since a grooved or slipping drum is what frays a cable in the first place.

Panels, dents and when a section can be swapped

A single dented or split section can often be replaced on its own rather than replacing the whole door, and that is worth asking about before anyone quotes you a new door. It depends on whether the model is still made and whether the color will match after years of sun.

Where it stops making sense is when the door has been hit hard enough to twist the section, or when two or more sections are gone. At that point the parts and labor start closing on the price of a new door that will be quieter, better insulated and under warranty.

You get told which side of that line your door is on. One customer wrote that they had been caught before by service people, which makes you wary. The way through that is showing you the failed part and explaining what it did.

I have been using Entrance Masters for almost 2 years, and from the first encounter the service has been absolutely fantastic. I had been having the worst issues with my garage since the recent purchase of my home, and they have been there every step of the way working to try to figure out the issue. Ricky tried every cost effective option he could before just saying you need to replace the motor, which most companies would not have. The motor was replaced a week ago along with some other updates and my garage closes and opens as it should and it is so smooth and quiet now.

When our residential gate stopped working I called them for a quote. Ricky was extremely responsive (even though he was out of town). He quickly scheduled his tech to come out and within a couple of hours he had our gate working again. He also replaced sensors on a garage door that had not been working properly for a couple of years. Once Ricky was back in town he scheduled to come back and button up a couple of loose ends and bring us some much needed clickers for the gate. Fantastic experience, excellent communication, skilled workmanship, extremely reasonable pricing.

We interviewed two garage door companies. The prices were very close however we chose Entrance Masters Garage Door and Gate Co. after reading great reviews and because it was important that they are local. We had many questions and they kindly and quickly responded. Also the delivery was on time and install quick. We have planned for a garage door for 20+ years and they helped us make our dream come true.

Tim Johnson repaired our garage door today. He went directly to the problem and fixed it. Then, he serviced moveable parts with lubricant. During all of this he talked with my wife and I explaining the various aspects of good garage door maintenance. His service was beyond expectations. We have been caught before with service people and it makes you wary. Tim Johnson spoke highly of his boss and it means that we are going to mention Entrance Masters to all our neighbors.

Great service and very reasonable! After another company told me I needed things I didn't need, I called Ricky and he came out and not only fixed it but did maintenance too, all for under 200 bucks. Would definitely recommend to all my friends and family!

Our garage door looks amazing and Ricky provided top notch customer service. First he was willing to communicate via calls, text and email. This itself is huge. So many companies today want you calling the office and email only which slows production and communication. Next he really laid out all the options and explained them in great detail. Once we narrowed down to two, Ricky went above and beyond really going over pros and cons of both. The install went quick and on time just as he stated. A few days after install he shoots me a text to confirm we're happy.

Most of the time it is a part. Springs, cables, rollers, hinges, sensors and track are all replaceable and a sound door is worth keeping. If the honest answer is that the door is finished you get told that, with the reason.

That is almost always the photo eyes either side of the opening, out of alignment or with something in front of one. If they are lined up and clean, the next thing to check is the opener's down force setting.

That is a broken lift cable. Leave it alone and do not try to lift it or take the bottom bracket off. The spring is still loaded and the bottom bracket is the part that hurts people.

Usually rollers or hinges, sometimes a spring on its way out. A customer here wrote that after a spring job their door had never sounded quieter, which is the normal outcome once the worn part is off it.

Yes, most repair calls are on somebody else's door. It does not change what gets checked.

Common springs, cables, rollers, hinges and sensors, yes. A panel for a specific door model or a discontinued part has to be ordered, and you will be told that on the visit rather than later.
